How to Easily Paint a Piano without Sanding

Pianos can be a beast to paint but in this tutorial I show you that it can be easy! Instead of all the horrible sanding I opted for a two in one paint and primer. No multiple layers of paint. The Behr paint and primer is a full coverage paint and could not have made this process easier!

I have always grown up with a piano in my house. A piano to me is a symbol of home. This is where my Mom hung our stockings. This is where my Dad casually left the mail. The Piano was the focal point of our living room. I remember my Mom telling me a story of how she had randomly seen the piano at a friend of my Dads Appliance shop and that because she wanted it my Dad went right down and bought it for her.

I knew that I would grow up and have a piano in my home. It was just a matter of fact thing, like it was a permanent fixture. Every home has to have a Piano right? So when I saw this one for free on Facebook Marketplace I knew I just had to have it. The finish had oranged from the sun over time and had lots of scratches and the wood was coming apart.

Even though I was a student moving to a new home every year, renting U-hauls and hiring movers, or asking friends was worth it. I have probably moved that Piano 4 times in the past 2 years but FINALLY I have the glossy black piano I have always wanted.

Step by Step Guide:

  1. First step was to dust the piano and wipe it down.
  2. Glue anything back together if needed.
  3. Take off the nobs (I chose to sand the bench because it was really banged up but you don’t need to)
  4. Paint the Piano! It’s just that easy. (Be sure to use a paint and primer 2-in-1)
  5. Remove any paint off the levers with paint remover.
  6. Attach new knobs-I really loved the brass ones I got from Amazon and they were a great price!

Plus, it looks aesthetically pleasing on a plain and naked wall.
